I knew it was going to take time to do this, and I was prepared for the long game! I had tried enough diet plans and crash diets that were not sustainable or help you lose weight in the short term but as soon as you went back to eating normal again the weight would start to pile back on. So by doing my own research I found what was best for my body, the foods that suited me, and designed my own diet to suit my lifestyle.
Since that night I have now lost 7 stone 11lbs in weight and now weigh 12 stone 5lbs. I did not starve myself to do so and was eating 4- 5 meals a day and not hungry at anytime. It was not of course plain sailing, and was very hard at times as you could imagine it would be. But when I hit a wall and my weight loss stopped, I just adjusted my diet and took something out that was not suiting me or put something in that was missing and got going again.
In 2014 I decided I would like to learn how to become a nutrition coach. To learn all the things about nutrition that I did not know, so that I could become the kind of coach that would never judge his clients, but to be there to help them every step of the way to reach their nutrition goals. The kind of coach that I wished I would have been able to work with when I first started out my weight loss journey.
Since I work shift work this was going to be hard as I could not take night classes. My nephew Stephen told me about a company called Precision nutrition co founded by one of the world's top nutrition experts Dr John Berardi. Not only have Precision nutrition worked with over 150,000 clients from a wide range of people, from your everyday person to sports stars some of which were Olympic champions and also UFC champions. They also teach people like me who work shift work or have other busy life commitments how to become nutrition coaches with their online tuition programmes where you can fit your studies around your life. I have completed and passed both their level one certification course and their level two master class programme. With my own life experience of my weight loss, and with the nutrition education that I have received from Precision nutrition. I now have the knowledge and experience to help anyone reach their nutrition goals whatever they maybe!
My story in the nutrition world started in 2010, for years I had struggled with my weight problems. This got worse when I suffered a back injury. I went from a person who weighed 14 1/2 stone to a person who weighed 20 stone. Most of this was due to the fact I was out of work, wasn't getting any exercise, and was comfort eating to help me deal with the pain and the boredom of been out of work and having nothing to do. My family and my doctor were very worried about my health and were always trying to encourage me to lose the excess weight.
To tell you the truth, I had accepted this weight. I did not think it would be possible to lose it. When I was between 14-15 stone, I struggled to control my weight, so now at 20 stone I just didn't think it would be possible, so I had now accepted this weight and could not understand how no one else could. In the back of my mind though, I longed to be a healthy weight, but thought I was living in dream land.
Then in September 2010 I decided to make that dream a reality. I knew I had a lot of weight to lose and that it would take some time to do so, but I was willing to try. I went first to see a dietician, but unfortunately the person I met was not at all helpful, was condescending and ended up making me feel worse about myself than before I went in to see them. I honestly don't know why some people go into coaching jobs if they don't know how to treat people with respect. The idea of losing weight and getting healthy kept playing around in my mind for the next few days. Then one night something just clicked in me, and I became determined that I was going to lose this weight! I said to myself " right thats it! I'm going to lose 5 stone weight starting today!" I weighed myself that night and I was 129kg or 20 stone 2lbs.
I did not know where I was going to start ,and after my experience with the dietician I did not feel that I could trust anyone else so I set off on my own, as I said, I did not know where I was going to start or how I was going to do it, but I was determined that I was going to lose this weight once and for all! And as we know every journey begins with a first step and I had just taken mine.
A friend of mine from work hinted on losing weight before summer so we came up with a mad challenge - who can loose more in a month? & the winner gets an Easter egg!
My previous approach to loosing weight was –
exercise, exercise, and more exercise!
Full time job and part time college? Where will I get the time?
I decided to opt for diet, so I asked Patrick for help.
His response was swift and professional: -
Okay, let`s see what we can do for you to get you where you want to be. …and to win you the Easter egg!
I have some food intolerances that I need to avoid: Gluten / Egg / Potato / Lactose
Every chef`s worst nightmare!
I emphasised that I would like to keep
consuming certain foods:
Fish / Wine / Chocolate treat…
because I am loosing weight, not a will to live.
Patrick has created personalised plan tailored to my needs. He took my routine into consideration and (despite my allergies!!) provided me with number of suggestions for breakfast, lunch and dinners, included snacks and even my “must have” requests. I got advice about portion sizes and hidden sugar content.
I am determined to stick to the plan, win the Easter egg and hopefully, once I get into habit of healthy eating, keep the weigh down altogether.
